November 7-- Grateful for a Big Burgundy Leather Chair

Some of the greatest treasures in our homes aren’t treasures at all. They’re just ordinary things filled with extraordinary memories.

In my living room sits my dad’s big burgundy leather chair.

Years ago, Mom wanted my recliner, so she asked if there was anything of hers I’d like in exchange. Without hesitation, I chose Dad’s chair.

She was delighted to get rid of it. It took up entirely too much room!

But oh, the memories tucked into that big old chair.

I can still picture Dad coming home and settling into it. His Bible resting on one arm, a couple of tangerines and a little bowl of nuts on the other, along with his favorite tea nearby. Remote in hand, he’d search for something wholesome to watch or listen to.

There were wonderful conversations, plenty of laughter, and so many ordinary evenings that I now recognize as extraordinary gifts.

That chair has held far more than a person. It’s held years of memories, the comfort of home, and little glimpses of a dad I loved so dearly.

And today, it sits in my living room, still taking up entirely too much space.

I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Thank You, Lord, for the ordinary things that hold extraordinary memories.

And now, after remembering all of that, I suddenly have a craving for a tangerine and a handful of mixed nuts. 🍊
