Surrounded By His Glory

Every Year about this time I start the process of getting my little seeds ready for the big scary gardens in my back yard. I say scary because there are all sorts of creatures and elements out there that are ready to attack my tender defenseless little seedlings.

(Reminds me a lot of raising children and sending them into the world!)

In order to give these little guys a head start in the real garden I start the germination process inside where it is warm and safe to give them a good head start. I get out all of my extra cookie sheets and cover them with paper towels. I sprinkle them with all sorts of different seeds. I then add another layer of paper towels on top of the seeds and then pour water on top until it is saturated all the way through to the bottom of the pan. I then keep a watchful eye on these little guys making sure to keep them wet everyday.

Here is my little Sweet Pea family... Within a couple of days this little family will be planted in the dirt and lined up along the tables by the windows.

The germination process is exciting and I sometimes become anxious for them to grow up quickly... I don't know about you, but this excites me! Once this happens I start the process of finding all sorts of little containers in my recycle basket to plant my seeds into. Nothing fancy at all here. Below here I used a recycled egg cartoon to plant my pumpkins into. I use milk, yogurt or any container I can find in my recycle bins.

I am certainly not the most knowledgeable gardener but I sure enjoy watching this amazing process take place, first inside my home, and then outside in the garden. There really is something very rewarding about this whole process.

I have garlic planted along with peas, beans, carrots, lettus, tomatoes, potatoes, pumpkins, two different types of onions etc. Everyone in the family here enjoys all of the fresh produce out of the garden every summer as well that is added to the daily meals.
