Did you know that Goliath was a PICKLE?

This Sunday I had the privilege of teaching the younger kids at church. We talked about the story of David and Goliath. No matter how many times I hear or teach this story I always learn something new from it. But this Sunday I really learned something new about Goliath that nearly landed me on the floor with laughter.

As I am talking about Goliath and a little history about how the Israelites don't get a long with the Philistines and how the Philistines had many giants in their land, (Makes you wonder what these moms were feeding their children? It's reported that Goliath was over 9 feet tall!) anyway, as I started to talk about one of the meanest and nastiest giants named Goliath, one of the little girls in the class yells out, "Goliath is a big Green Pickle!" I looked at her trying not to laugh since she was so excited and proud of her answer. So I said, "Well, hmmm I don't recall seeing that he was a pickle, are you sure he was a Pickle? Maybe that was another story you are thinking about?" As she looked at me, she smiled, and told me that," Goliath is a pickle, I know it to be true, Vegie tales told me so!" (I have a bone to pick with Vegie tales..or is it a pickle I have to pick now?)

So this Sunday I went to church ready to teach a bible story and come to find out, I was the one who ended learning something that day...Goliath was a big Green pickle, and if you don't believe us just go watch the Vegie tale version of David and Goliath.

I started off the class with this snack pictured above. It was a healthy snack and go figure they loved it!

~ I bought these adorable little plastic cups at the dollar store.

~ The first layer is graham crackers crushed up
~ Second layer is vanilla yogurt
~ Third layer is blueberries
~Another layer of Vanilla yogurt
~Sliced bananas
~Topped with a squirt of whip cream

I wished I'd thought about putting a cherry on top, awwe maybe next time.

As the class came to an end I handed out their Fortune cookies. I have renamed them for my Sunday school kids "Scripture cookies."

Coming to the class next Sunday: Nathan and Pancakes!

Next week we are going to be talking about Nathan as a little boy who had faith that God would heal his father. As a result of this little boys faith in God and his prayers , through Jesus his father was healed from his leprosy.

As I told the kids this last Sunday, God doesn't look at the way we look nor our size. It doesn't matter to God the way any of us looks or how big we are, God looks at the heart.

With faith and an open and willing heart to God, all things are possible!

If you'd like to read more about David you will find it in 1 Samuel 17

I always say the same thing. I found out recently from a 7 year old how to tell if a boy likes you. If you wear a dress and they keep falling down in front of you then that means they like you. I asked her if she wasn't a little big afraid they were just trying to peek up her skirt and she replied emphatically, "Nope, it's just because I look so great in a dress." So there you are ladies, if the men fall at your feet......it's because they like you.

What a funny story! Yes, Veggie Tales takes a little creative license, don't they? lol The Ninevites in Jonah's story are "fish slappers" - they slap people with fish. :) You're so creative with your class!
